Place it somewhere central so all of the family knows where to find it.
  • If it is safe, start removing access water. The best techniques to use are mopping, blotting, and wiping. Start with floors as this contributes to safety. Don’t attempt to use a vacuum even if you have a dedicated wet vacuum. These are only meant for lighter spillages.
  • In case of a severe flood, protect floor areas such as carpets and also upholstery items from further damage. You can do this by placing towels or cardboard paper on the floor. Also, move drapes and rugs. When damp, mold can easily take hold in soft furnishings and upholstery.
  • Consider switching off the mains electric or at least electric items in the affected area of your home or business. As we all know, electricity and water don’t go hand in hand.
